Vivo introduced the S20 and S20 Pro smartphones in China. The new products offer bright displays, although not flagship ones, but very powerful hardware platforms, as well as advanced camera sets, especially in the case of the older model with the Pro prefix in the name.
Vivo S20 and S20 Pro smartphones differ in hardware platforms. The S20 model received a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor (4 nm, one Cortex-A715 core with a frequency of 2630 MHz, three Cortex-A715 cores with a frequency of 2400 MHz, four Cortex-A510 with a frequency of 1800 MHz and an Adreno 720 GPU). The junior smartphone can offer 8, 12 or 16 GB of LPDDR4X RAM, as well as 256 or 512 GB of permanent UFS 2.2 memory.
In turn, Vivo S20 Pro offers last year’s flagship chip MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ (4 nm, one Cortex-X4 core with a frequency of 3.4 GHz, three Cortex-X4 with a frequency of 2.85 GHz, four Cortex-A720 with a frequency of 2. 0 GHz and Immortalis-G720 MC12 graphics core). This device offers a choice between 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM or 16 GB of even faster LPDDR5X, as well as 256 or 512 GB of UFS 3.1 permanent memory.
Both new products received 6.67-inch AMOLED displays with a resolution of 2800 × 1260 pixels, a refresh rate of 120 Hz and HDR10 support. For the Vivo S20 screen, the frequency of PWM backlight brightness adjustment is stated to be 3840 Hz, while for the display of the Vivo S20 Pro model this figure is 2160 Hz. At the same time, the screens of both smartphones have a peak brightness of 5000 cd/m2.
The main cameras of the devices are also different. Vivo S20 received a set of 50-megapixel OV50E sensor with f/1.88 optics and optical stabilization, as well as an 8-megapixel module for wide-angle shooting with f/2.2 optics. The older Vivo S20 Pro offers a set of a 50-megapixel Sony IMX921 sensor with f/1.88 optics and optical stabilization, a 50-megapixel sensor with f/2.05 optics for wide-angle shooting, as well as a 50-megapixel telephoto camera based on the IMX882 sensor with support for 3x optical zoom and f/2.55 optics. The front cameras of the devices are the same – based on 50-megapixel sensors with autofocus and f/2.0 optics.
Both smartphones have IP64 dust and water resistance. The Vivo S20 is slightly smaller and thinner than the Pro version. Its dimensions are 160.35 × 74.18 × 7.19 mm, and its weight is 186 grams. Weighing 193 grams, the Vivo S20 Pro measures 160.56 x 75.02 x 7.43 mm. Both devices offer support for 5G, NFC and Bluetooth 5.4. The younger Vivo S20 supports Wi-Fi 6, while the S20 Pro claims to support Wi-Fi 7.
The Vivo S20 model received a 6500 mAh battery with support for 80 W fast charging. Vivo S20 Pro is equipped with a 5500 mAh battery with support for 90 W fast charging. The smartphones are available for pre-order in China starting today, with retail sales of the Vivo S20 starting on December 6 and the Vivo S20 Pro on December 12 at the following prices:
