Meta✴ is exploring adding facial recognition technology to future versions of its Ray-Ban Meta✴ smart glasses, The Information reported. The new “super perception” feature would allow users to identify people nearby by scanning their faces, though it could raise privacy concerns since not everyone around them would be comfortable with the behavior.

In this regard, Meta✴ is discussing whether to disable the camera’s LED indicator that signals when the facial recognition process has started. Current models of Ray-Ban Meta✴ AI smart glasses have an LED indicator that starts flashing to alert others that the camera has been turned on.
According to sources, new models of smart glasses called Aperol and Bellini with the “super perception” function will be released in 2026. They are expected to receive more powerful batteries, since the new function significantly increases energy consumption. When testing the technology on existing Ray-Ban Meta✴ AI glasses, the battery life was reduced to only 30 minutes.
Meta✴’s AI-powered software, activated by the command “Hey, Meta✴, launch the living AI,” will not only recognize faces, but also remind the wearer of smart glasses to, for example, pick up their keys if the AI notices they haven’t done so, or to pick up groceries on the way home. Since the glasses’ camera and sensors are constantly running in “super perception” mode, the AI will be able to track the user’s actions and remind them if they’ve missed something.
