The role-playing game Dragon Age: Inquisition from BioWare, released almost 10 years ago, was almost immediately considered the most successful release in the studio’s history, but until now sales remained hidden behind a veil of secrecy.
Electronic Arts reported at the beginning of 2015 that “Inquisition” broke the sales record for BioWare games, and in 2018, series producer Mark Darrah called the project the best-selling project in the studio’s history overall.
Over the years, the success of Dragon Age: Inquisition has faded from the memory of the community, and in 2024, some gamers are no longer sure that the threequel can be considered a hit and a commercially successful game.
Darrah unexpectedly intervened in the dispute on this topic that unfolded on the social network X. He has not been listed at BioWare since the end of 2020, but acts as a consultant for the next game in the series, Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
«I don’t know where the idea came from that DA:I was a commercial failure… It has over 12 million copies [sold] at the moment. It WAY exceeded EA’s internal projections,” Darragh said.
Dragon Age: Inquisition debuted in November 2014 on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. The game received critical acclaim (85-89% on Metacritic) and won a number of awards, including the top prize at The Game Awards 2014.
As for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the first new game in the series in 10 years will be released on October 31 on PC (Steam, EGS, EA App), PS5, Xbox Series X and S. They promise “the most single-player experience yet” .
