Video: Chinese supercar YangWang U9 bounces in place and dances

The sports electric coupe YangWang U9, which is produced by the Chinese auto giant BYD, initially promised to demonstrate unusual transmission and suspension capabilities such as turning on the spot and bouncing, but with the advent of commercial vehicles in the showrooms of the brand, these functions received documentary evidence in video format.

Let us remind you that the YangWang U9 is equipped not only with four electric motors with a total power of about 1300 hp, but also with an unusual DiSus-X air suspension, which has the ability to independently control the shock absorbers of each of the four wheels. The vehicle performs the already commonplace trick of the “tank turn” type by rotating the wheels on each side in opposite directions, but its ability to jump on the spot and “dance” deserves more attention. A sequence of movements recorded in the memory of the on-board electronics allows the car to sway its body to the beat of the music, and a bouncing trick is designed to attract the attention of the public, when all four wheels simultaneously lift off the ground without moving in the horizontal plane.

The dynamic characteristics of the YangWang U9 also prevent the sports car from looking pale compared to its more famous competitors, since it reaches 100 km/h in 2.36 seconds, and the top speed is limited to 300 km/h. Moreover, in China the car is offered for $236,000, which is not so much by the standards of this category of vehicles. The interior of the electric vehicle does not suffer from asceticism aimed at reducing weight; comfortable seats and rich interior decoration are provided.

The stroke of the shock absorbers when adjusting the ground clearance reaches 75 mm, the air suspension is capable of instantly developing a lifting force of more than one ton, which is enough to perform a trick with bouncing in place. The transmission also allows you to redistribute torque in a safe way if one of the wheels punctures; as a demonstration of its capabilities, the car was even driven on three wheels.

In real operation, the capabilities of the air suspension are used more prosaically; it is designed to reduce body sway during sudden starts, braking and sharp turns. If we talk about a “tank turn”, which for a car with low ground clearance is intended mainly on a hard surface, then it leads to increased tire wear. For this reason, the American company Rivian did not even activate a similar function on its production SUVs equipped with four traction electric motors, although when making a turn on loose soil there would be less harm to the tires.
