When preparing for quarterly reporting events, companies sometimes announce important personnel changes. In the case of AMD this month, a similar revelation was the preparation of the company’s president, Victor Peng, for retirement. He will leave his current post on August 30 and will help his successor take charge of business as an adviser for some time.
In total, Victor Peng has more than 40 years of experience in the computer industry; as president of AMD, he joined the company in February 2022 as a result of the deal with Xilinx, which he previously headed. In total, he spent about 14 years working at Xilinx, and before that he worked at AMD from 2005 to 2008. As noted in the official press release, Vamsi Boppana, who is now senior vice president of AMD’s artificial intelligence group, responsible for marketing the Instinct family of computing accelerators, among other things, has been appointed as the successor to 64-year-old Victor Pan. Boppana has worked at Xilinx since 2008; after the merger with AMD, he went to work in its structures. He currently oversees the development of the Instinct family of accelerators and related software for artificial intelligence systems.
Following Boppana’s appointment as president of the company, AMD’s embedded business will be led by Salil Raje, who is currently senior vice president and business unit manager. Boppana and Raje will report directly to AMD CEO and Chairman Lisa Su. The latter, commenting on the departure of Victor Pan, noted that during his tenure as president of the company, AMD was able to become a leader in the market of programmable FPGA matrices.
