OpenAI plans to introduce several new AI models in the near future, including an updated version of GPT-4 called GPT-4.1, which will be an improved version of the company’s flagship reasoning model GPT-4o.

According to The Verge, the improved new model GPT-4.1, like GPT-4o, will be able to process text, images, and audio in real time. Along with it, OpenAI plans to release lighter versions — GPT-4.1 mini and nano, which could launch as early as next week.

The company is also preparing to release a full version of the o3, as well as a light version of the o4 mini. AI developer Tibor Blaho, known for spotting potential innovations before others, found mentions of these models in the new web version of ChatGPT, which he believes indicates their imminent launch.

Interestingly, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman had previously hinted on X at “exciting features” coming to the company’s product line, but did not specify whether this was related to new models. However, he also warned that users could experience lags and crashes due to the high load on computing power: “You should expect lags, crashes, and slow services while we resolve performance issues.”

Recall that OpenAI was previously forced to limit the use of the image generator in the free version of ChatGPT due to server overload, since, according to Altman, the popularity of this feature led to the fact that their GPUs almost began to melt, confirming the assumption of colossal demand for the company’s services.
