Today at MWC 2025, Lenovo unveiled new computers, a special place among which is occupied by the Yoga Solar PC laptop with a solar panel on the outside of the lid. The company could not stay away from climate initiatives and took the opportunity to develop a mobile computer with the ability to receive a charge from almost any light source, even from a desk lamp.

The company claims that the efficiency of the solar panel built into the laptop panel exceeds 24%, which is the highest figure in the industry. This is achieved, among other things, by placing the contact elements behind the photovoltaic cells. Thus, nothing prevents the cells from collecting the light falling on them as much as possible, extending the autonomous operation of the “solar” laptop.
The Yoga Solar PC is claimed to be the lightest in its class. It weighs 1.22 kg and is 15 mm thick. It won’t weigh down your backpack or bag. And considering that it only takes half a charge from the sun, this model is an interesting proposition for working outside the office.
Since the Yoga Solar PC can operate in a wide range of ambient light brightness, it has a system for dynamically adjusting the charger’s operating modes. Current and voltage are selected depending on the angle of incidence of light rays and their intensity, which prolongs the life of batteries and the duration of autonomous operation of the device.
The solar power system is configured in such a way that it will prioritize direct power to the laptop rather than charging mode. This is done to extend the life of the batteries, and also ensures maximum energy savings and system stability regardless of the light intensity. Even in low-light conditions, the panel can generate electricity and maintain battery charge while the PC is not in use.
The Lenovo Yoga Solar PC can be used anywhere there is light, the company claims. Just 20 minutes of illumination from the panel and the laptop is ready to go, providing up to an hour of video playback. But for now, this is just a proof of concept, and it is not clear when such a device will go on sale.
The Lenovo Yoga Solar PC is powered by an Intel Lunar Lake processor, paired with 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. The laptop features a 14-inch OLED display. To help users better understand the unusual power supply system, the laptop will come with software that shows how much current and voltage the solar panel is producing.
However, the company will not leave users without solar power. For this case, it has prepared a universal Solar Power Kit for Yoga. This is a portable, foldable solar cell with an external battery.
It can transmit power directly to your laptop via a USB-C port. You can use the kit anywhere you like. Since it is a separate solar panel, you can always orient it to the sun in the best possible way.
