Like its predecessor, the ROG Crosshair X670E, the new model is made in the E-ATX form factor. The board is equipped with a color display mounted on the left radiator of the VRM power subsystem. To the right of the DIMM memory slots, the board has a special DIMM.2 connector of a new format for installing a proprietary expansion card for NVMe drives.

Since this board, like the previous Extreme series board, will be aimed at enthusiasts, it has a POST code indicator, power/reset buttons, and a separate Flex Key button with assignable functions (for example, rebooting with entering the BIOS, turning off the backlight, etc.). The new product also differs from its predecessor in its support for Wi-Fi 7.

The Asus ROG Crosshair X870E Extreme is definitely not a board for everyone. The previous X670E-based board retailed for $999, and it hasn’t gotten any cheaper over time.
