The Half-Life games have often ended at the most interesting point, but with the new part of the franchise, codenamed hlx, according to data miner Maxim Poletaev (aka Gabe Follower), this will not happen.

Dataminers have been talking about hlx taking the place of Half-Life 3 in the series’ chronology since last year, but information about the game’s plot has remained a secret until now.

In the new video, Poletaev said that hlx will put a bold end to the adventures of the silent theoretical physicist Gordon Freeman, beloved by fans, and other main characters.

«Whether it will be a good ending or a bad one, I don’t know. But it will be a full ending, not a cliffhanger, like in all the previous parts,” Poletaev assured regarding the finale of hlx.

Hlx has been in the works of the Half-Life: Alyx development team since at least 2021

According to Poletaev, for many developers, hlx will be a “farewell gift” to the community. At the same time, the data miner allowed for the release of Half-Life branches in the future, although the main story will end in hlx.

The dataminer warned that he was probably not the only one who had received the mentioned information about the hlx plot, so he urged fans to prepare themselves “for potential leaks and spoilers.”

Hlx was previously reported to be a single-player first-person shooter with an emphasis on interactivity and simulation, as well as advanced AI. Development is “very, very far along,” and an announcement could be made in 2025.
