Following several teasers, Valve has finally added one of the most iconic maps in the history of the series to Counter-Strike 2. A major update has been released for the free-to-play competitive shooter.
The main feature of the update was the return of the classic Train map to the game. The fan-favorite Eastern European depot has been completely redesigned – both in terms of design and graphics.
According to Valve, many of the classic elements remain on the map, but the developers have tried to diversify the gameplay so that Counter-Strike veterans do not relax.
Valve notes that the new version of Train is 60% cloudier and 100% rainier – not only the map itself, but also the characters are covered in water. Data miner Gabe Follower reports that the effect has almost no impact on performance.
Gabe Follower also discovered (see video below) on the redesigned Train a reference to Portal and a potential teaser of cards that could be added to Counter-Strike 2 further – Lake/Tuscan, Cobblestone, Assault (questionable) and Bank.
Among other things, the patch added four new community maps (Basalt, Edin, Palais, Whistle), damage prediction settings, improved optimization (in particular on Overpass) and much more. The full list of changes is available on Steam.
Counter-Strike 2 is a free upgrade of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to the version on the Source 2 engine. The game was released on the night of September 28, 2023 and completely replaced CS:GO.
