In May 2025, Microsoft ended production of the Surface Laptop Studio 2 without introducing a replacement for the model. The company’s partners confirmed the end of production, noting that availability of the remaining units will be limited and will vary by region, The Verge reports. Microsoft will continue to provide driver and firmware updates in accordance with Surface’s support policy.

The Surface Laptop Studio 2, unveiled in September 2023, featured a unique hinge mechanism that allowed the device to transform from a laptop to a tablet or presentation mode. The model was equipped with 13th-generation Intel Core i7 processors and NVIDIA GeForce RTX discrete graphics, aimed at professional users and creative tasks.

Microsoft has previously discontinued several Surface devices, including Surface Headphones, Surface Earbuds, Surface Duo, and Surface Studio 2 Plus. The lack of an announcement of the Surface Laptop Studio 3 raises questions about the future of the series. The departure of key Surface executive Panos Panay in 2023 has also impacted the company’s hardware strategy.

With the Surface lineup shrinking, Microsoft is planning a refresh of the device lineup in 2025, including models with Intel Lunar Lake processors and enhanced AI capabilities as part of its Copilot Plus initiative. However, specific plans for replacing the Surface Laptop Studio 2 have yet to be announced.
