The Polish company MAB Robotics demonstrated a new ability of its dog-like robot Honey Badger (English – honey badger) – the four-legged machine ran along the bottom of the pool.
Moving in the water on your feet is not the most effective idea, for example, in comparison with screws, but in this case the creators of the machine had a different task: the video demonstrates how reliable the design of the robot is and how dynamic it is. According to the developers, the Honey Badger, originally intended for ground operations, will prove useful in missions to search and rescue victims at disaster sites.
«Developing mobility systems that can navigate underwater terrain is an exciting journey, and I am excited about the potential impact this work can have on inspection and maintenance services in flooded areas,” said Jakub Bartoszek, co-founder and CEO of MAB Robotics.
Search and rescue of victims is one of the most important tasks facing autonomous robotic systems – their use eliminates the need for a person to personally visit potentially dangerous areas at the sites of natural and man-made disasters.
