There are not too many details about the new product today. It is known that the SM8466 will be part of the MonTitan family of controllers, on the basis of which devices for data centers and enterprise-class systems are created. The product is expected to support PCIe 6.0 x4 and provide throughput of up to 30.25 GB/s in both directions.
It is not yet clear what process Silicon Motion intends to use in the manufacture of SM8466. It is known that the SM2508 controller with support for PCIe 5.0 x4, which is designed for client drives, is manufactured using TSMC N6 (6 nm class). Thus, it is suggested that the next generation solution will be based on more “thin” technology.

Network sources add that Silicon Motion is somewhat behind its main competitor Phison with controllers that support the PCIe 5.0 interface. In particular, Phison was ahead of the industry by releasing the PS5026-E26 solution with PCIe 5.0 x4 support: this controller can be used in both consumer and enterprise SSDs. Silicon Motion subsequently introduced a more powerful competing product, the MonTitan SM8366, for data center drives.
