Rumors about Samsung’s intention to release a triple foldable smartphone have been circulating for quite some time. Now, online sources are writing that the South Korean vendor has not abandoned this idea, but has chosen an approach different from what we saw in the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design triple foldable smartphone.

According to the source, Samsung will release a G-shaped smartphone, the side displays of which fold inward. The Huawei Mate XT has a Z-shaped design, when the flaps fold like an accordion. The advantage of the G-shaped design is that when folded, none of the side flaps of the screen look outward, which makes the display more protected. The disadvantage of this approach is that the manufacturer will have to use another display on the outside of the case.

Samsung is rumored to be planning to launch its first tri-fold smartphone alongside the new Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7 models. This could allegedly happen in July if the Korean company sticks to the same timeline as last year. If this is indeed the case, Samsung would start purchasing components for the new smartphones in April, when they would go into mass production.

The Samsung tri-fold smartphone is expected to feature a 9.96-inch internal display and a 6.49-inch external screen. The vendor is rumored to be limited to 200,000 units. This means that the launch of Samsung’s first tri-fold smartphone may be limited to a few markets.
