Last fall, Meta introduced “teen accounts” for Instagram
, giving the platform’s more than 54 million age-appropriate users more private accounts. On Instagram
, the rule applies to users aged 13 to 15. Users’ Facebook
and Messenger accounts will work similarly. Teens won’t be able to interact with strangers or change certain privacy settings on their own unless their parents approve. At the same time, parents will be able to control how much time their child spends on social media, as well as their friends list.
Meta also announced new safety features for teen Instagram accounts
. Users under 16 will now need parental permission to start a live stream. The app will also prevent teens from turning off the anti-nudity feature, which blurs relevant photos, without parental permission.
