Intel has long been in crisis mode, and attempts to streamline its organizational structure were made under former CEO Patrick Gelsinger. His successor will not escape these unpopular measures either, as Intel may announce a workforce reduction of at least 20% this week.

Bloomberg reports this, citing its own sources. The priorities in changing the staffing schedule are aimed at optimizing the management structure and reviving a corporate culture based on engineering enthusiasm. For CEO Lip-Bu Tan, who took office in March, this will be the first serious step in restructuring the company.
Last year, Intel cut about 15,000 jobs and ended the year with about 109,000 people on its payroll. So if Intel announces more than 20% of its workforce cuts this week, at least 20,000 people could lose their jobs. Intel is scheduled to report its results for the last quarter this Thursday. Management usually announces staff cuts at events like this.
