At MWC 2025 in Barcelona, Honor unveiled a new long-term support strategy for its devices. Now, all Magic series smartphones will receive operating system and security updates for 7 years – two years longer than before. Currently, only Samsung and Google guarantee similar support periods.
Extending the update period plays a key role in ensuring the security of mobile devices and increasing their service life. Smartphones that regularly receive security updates are significantly less vulnerable to new threats emerging in the digital environment. In addition, supporting OS updates allows users to enjoy the latest Android features for longer without having to replace their device.
In the context of rapidly aging technologies, this approach makes Honor products more attractive to consumers. For comparison, Apple does not disclose official iOS support periods, but in practice, iPhones receive OS and security updates for 7-8 years.
The first smartphone to receive a 7-year update cycle was the Honor Magic7 Pro, which was unveiled in January 2025. Positioned as a direct competitor to the Samsung Galaxy S25, this flagship smartphone is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, a 6.8-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2800 × 1260 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz, 12 GB of RAM, and a 512 GB storage.
Honor Magic7 Pro deeply integrates AI technologies. Key AI solutions include Google Gemini, Circle to Search visual search function, and built-in AI translator. AI is also actively used in image processing, allowing you to improve the quality of photos through intelligent lighting correction, color optimization, and increased detail in photos.
The extended software support period is part of Honor’s Alpha Plan initiative to expand the capabilities of its AI-powered devices. Long-term updates will allow smartphones to receive new AI-powered features throughout their lifespan. However, it should be noted that some future technologies will require more powerful hardware, which may limit their availability on current models.
