There is less than a week left before the release of the Khaos Reigns story add-on for the fighting game Mortal Kombat 1, and publisher Warner Bros. Games with developers from NetherRealm Studios decided to celebrate the imminent premiere with an explosive trailer.
Khaos Reigns will continue the plot of Mortal Kombat 1: the fire god Liu Kang must rally his allies to challenge the ruthless titan Havik, who came from an alternate universe and threatens to plunge the worlds into chaos.
In the three-minute video, Liu Kang calls on his comrade to help him “stop the cycle of violence,” but in vain: the new trailer is so violent that it is banned from publication outside of YouTube on most channels.
The video showed how familiar and new characters from Mortal Kombat 1 (including those from Kombat Pack 2) grind each other into dust, tear each other apart, and also use cruel and inventive fatalities.
The video also showed several animalities – as part of this finishing move, the character turns into an animal (or insect). An update with this feature will be released simultaneously with Khaos Reigns and will be free.
Fans were delighted with what they saw, especially noting the reference to Mortal Kombat (2011) in Noob Saibot’s animality, as well as the continuity of the fatality of the maniac Ghostface from the horror films “Scream”.
Khaos Reigns will be available on September 24th for $50 on PC (Steam, EGS), PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and $40 on Switch. The pre-order includes Kombat Pack 2, a six-player pack (see image above) that cannot be purchased separately.
