Given the niche purpose of the Cybertruck pickup, the Tesla Model X crossover can still be considered the brand’s flagship electric vehicle, and the recent NHTSA requirement to recall 9,136 vehicles to possibly correct a dangerous physical defect in the assembly could negatively affect the automaker’s reputation. It will not be possible to fix this problem remotely – the car will have to be delivered to a company service center.

As noted in the order of the American agency NHTSA, which is responsible for road safety, Tesla must recall 9,136 Model X crossovers to check the reliability of fastening decorative moldings on the glass roof, which can separate from it at speed and pose a certain threat to the safety of others. According to the department, fragments of the molding on the roof of these electric vehicles could have been placed on a sealant during assembly without first treating the surface with a primer, which increases the risk of their spontaneous separation while driving.

At the company service, specialists will check the degree of adhesion of the roof moldings and, if necessary, reinstall them in compliance with the technology. For car owners, this operation will be completely free, except for the costs of delivering the electric vehicle to the service center. Tesla Model X electric cars are assembled only at the brand’s Californian plant, which is the oldest. The car is characterized by a large area of panoramic glazing and the presence of rear doors that rise upward in a “falcon wing” pattern.

According to BizzyCar, in the first half of the year, Tesla was second only to Ford Motor in terms of the number of cars recalled to correct deficiencies in the United States, since the former had this figure almost reaching 2.6 million units, and the latter was close to 3.6 million cars. In the case of Tesla, the bulk of the fixes are provided by remote software updates without a service visit, even when it comes to the operation of the actuators.
