In recent years, several manufacturers have released e-readers and notebooks with E Ink Kaleido 3 screens. The technology is not limited to portable devices, however, with E Ink demonstrating 75-inch outdoor panels based on it.

E Ink has partnered with Samsung, LG Information Display, DynaScan and Agile Display Solutions to showcase Kaleido 3 Outdoor at ISE 2025 (Integrated Systems Europe). Kaleido Outdoor 3 e-paper technology features an array of RGB filters on top of E Ink’s monochrome layer, allowing it to display 4,096 colours and crisp, clear text. This solution is designed for outdoor digital signage and can operate in temperatures ranging from -15°C to +65°C.

The panel’s diagonal is 75 inches, and it consumes electricity only when the image changes. In practice, E Ink suggests installing such structures, for example, at bus stops and using solar panels to power them, replacing existing energy-intensive solutions. In the absence of artificial backlight sources, electronic paper displays are safe for the eyes.

Samsung used this solution to produce displays with a diagonal from 13 (resolution 1600 × 1200 pixels) to 75 inches (5120 × 2880 pixels). The external screen is equipped with a 5000 mAh battery, USB Type-C ports, 8 GB of internal memory, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support. Remote control is carried out using a mobile application; a special algorithm is used to optimize visibility. DynaScan integrated the displays into the DK series designs, available in LCD and LED screens, as well as lightboxes.
