Aspiring witcher Ciri in the debut trailer for The Witcher 4 did not use the abilities she had in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Developers from CD Projekt Red have clarified the situation.
Let us remember that in the video from The Game Awards 2024, the main character of The Witcher 4 encounters the monster Bauk, but does not use teleport, call a fireball, or dash, which she could have used at the end of the third Witcher.
«Between the end of the last game, when she was too strong, and now with the skill set shown in the trailer… something definitely happened between [these two points in time],” CDPR hints.
According to The Witcher 4 executive producer Małgorzata Mitręga, the team had to delve into the mythology of the universe to solve the problem of a potential imbalance of power at the start of the new game.
In other words, Ciri will not be as strong as at the end of The Witcher 3 at the start of The Witcher 4. “She’s faster, more agile, but it’s still noticeable that Geralt raised her,” Mithrega noted in an interview with GamesRadar.
CD Projekt Red did not disclose which of the 36 ending options for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is canonical for the new game, but they assured that all endings of “Wild Hunt” are important.
The Witcher 4 is being created on the Unreal Engine 5 and does not yet have even an approximate release date. The game recently entered active production with 400 of CD Projekt Red’s 650 employees working on it.
