Polish studio People Can Fly (Bulletstorm, Gears of War: Judgment, Outriders) reported that due to “external market pressure” it was forced to fire a significant part of its employees and stop developing a new game.
According to People Can Fly CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski, as a result of difficult market conditions, the studio parted ways with more than 120 employees.
It is worth noting that this is already the second wave of cuts at People Can Fly in 2024. In January, the studio fired over 30 people working on a project codenamed Project Gemini for Square Enix.
On the development side, People Can Fly has made changes to its strategy for self-publishing games. The studio stopped production of the game, codenamed Project Victoria, and cut the team behind Project Bifrost.
Judging by the wording, there is no talk of a complete cancellation of Project Victoria, but People Can Fly has already lost one project in 2024 – in April, the studio finally stopped working on the Project Dagger action game for Take-Two Interactive.
«The video game market continues to change, and we are forced to adapt. We are doubling down on our new work for hire and focusing production on one independent title,” Wojciechowski said.
The newest release from People Can Fly is the VR version of Bulletstorm for Steam VR, Quest and PS VR2. Project Gemini is expected to be released in 2026. The studio also has a Microsoft IP game called Project Maverick in development.
