Amazon MGM Studios acquired the rights to the film adaptation of Warhammer 40,000 with the participation of actor Henry Cavill from Games Workshop two years ago, but things have only now moved forward.
Recall that Cavill’s Warhammer 40,000 cinematic universe could have been in danger of being canceled if Amazon and Games Workshop had not agreed on all creative issues by December 2024.
Luckily for fans of the franchise, disaster was averted. Games Workshop announced that it has reached a final agreement with Amazon Content Services to create films and TV series based on Warhammer 40,000.
According to Games Workshop, at this stage the team has “a plot and sequence of stories” that they are going to tell as part of the film adaptations. The first draft of the initiative is already being prepared for production.
Sources from Deadline report that the series is being developed based on proposals from a small team of writers. Development is at an early stage – the project does not yet have a showrunner.
Cavill reported on his social networks that he and his “incredible team” took part in discussions about the material. Together they found “a fantastic place to start our universe.”
Games Workshop hastened to warn that you shouldn’t count on a speedy release and the project is still several years away from its premiere: “As with all other handmade things, it all takes time.”
