As expected, as part of the CitizenCon 2954 festival, Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) presented a new gameplay demo of Squadron 42, a story-based game in the Star Citizen universe. The release date for the project was also announced at the event.
«The live demo of Squadron 42 was plagued by crashes, bugs, and graphical problems. Due to the aforementioned troubles, the presentation time exceeded an hour and a half, but later the authors posted a concise version (1 hour and 16 minutes).
CIG head Chris Roberts noted from the CitizenCon 2954 stage that the game was more stable during his sessions: “We said we’d do it live, and the demo gods brought down their wrath on us.”
The Squadron 42 demo included the game’s prologue: character creation, a walk through the UEES Gauntlet, a training segment, the Battle of Vega II (video and gameplay), and shooting aliens on board the UEES Gauntlet.
Squadron 42’s prologue features a mix of gameplay and cinematic cutscenes starring Hollywood stars like Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson and now Henry Cavill.
Despite the technical difficulties, viewers were impressed with the demo and have high hopes for Squadron 42. “I’m sure that at release this will be a game of a generation,” shared ikaruga208.
Fans, however, will have to be patient. According to Roberts, Squadron 42 will not be released until 2026, but the team is confident in the timing. Players can expect 30-40 hours of gameplay.
