This week, OpenAI launched a new service in the United States, 1-800-CHATGPT, where anyone in the country can call the toll-free number 1-800-242-8478 and voice chat with the ChatGPT AI bot for up to 15 minutes. For users outside the US, it is now possible to send messages via WhatsApp to the same number to interact with ChatGPT in a chat.

When calling the specified number, the user hears the following: “Hello again, this is ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence assistant. Our conversation may be monitored for security. How can I help you? After this, the caller can ask the bot any questions, similar to what happens when interacting with it in a text chat.
During the demonstration of the new service, OpenAI employees showed several examples of interaction with ChatGPT in voice chat. It is noteworthy that you do not need to use a smartphone to communicate with the AI bot, since calls to the toll-free number are also available from landline phones.
Representatives of OpenAI said that the new service appeared as part of the internal project Hack Week, which was launched just a few weeks ago. It aims to make ChatGPT more accessible to consumers if they don’t have a smartphone or computer handy.
