Apple announced the purchase of the popular Lithuanian-developed image editor Pixelmator

Apple has entered into an agreement to purchase Pixelmator, a popular image editing app available on Mac and iOS. Pixelmator announced the deal on its official blog, noting that the move will allow it to reach a wider audience and have an even greater impact on the lives of creatives around the world.

According to The Verge, the deal is at the stage of regulatory approval. “At this time, there are no significant changes planned for Pixelmator Pro, Pixelmator for iOS, and Photomator. Stay tuned so you don’t miss any interesting news,” the company said in a statement.

Although the details of the transaction have not been disclosed, it is known that it will be completed only subject to regulatory approval. This may be a challenging task given recent precedents. In particular, deals between Nvidia and Arm, Amazon and iRobot, as well as Adobe and Figma were blocked due to regulatory requirements. In turn, Apple has already successfully completed several major acquisitions, including the purchase of the popular weather application Dark Sky.

Let’s remember that after acquiring Dark Sky in 2020, Apple closed the application in 2022, integrating its technologies into its own application. However, some other programs acquired by Apple, such as Final Cut and Logic Pro, continue to exist and develop many years after the purchase.

It is noted that over the years of its existence, Pixelmator Pro has been able to become a worthy and more affordable alternative to Adobe Photoshop, since it is available for a one-time fee of $49.99 and has an equally wide range of tools for editing and retouching photos, creating designs and drawings. And a recent update to Pixelmator added improved masking functionality and the ability to automatically remove backgrounds from images using artificial intelligence.
