Revived from the ashes, the Fntastic studio, which was responsible for the network shooter The Day Before that “died” a month and a half after its release, took up the old thing – searching for free labor to create its game.
Let us remember that the plan for Fntastic’s return to the industry, among other things, assumed professionalism, that is, the refusal of volunteers – volunteers who helped the studio with The Day Before for “cool rewards” and free codes, and not money.
Previously, Fntastic announced that instead of the arcade Escape Factory (see the unsuccessful Kickstarter campaign), it would develop an online action-horror Items in the style of Propnight – one of its past games, the rights to which the studio lost.
A week later, the developers announced a competition on their Discord: gamers were offered to design a map for Items in exchange for the prospect of its implementation in the game (with a mention of authorship “somewhere” on the location) and a copy of the project on Steam.
The participant is required to create a map (be it a drawing, 3D model or other style), publish their work in a separate Discord channel and describe the concept of the location. At the time of publication, Fntastic had received six submissions.
Western media criticized the new initiative, accusing Fntastic of returning to the practice of using volunteers. In a statement to The Gamer, the studio confirmed that the competition does not offer any monetary reward.
At the announcement of Items, the studio noted that it had received many requests to make a project in the spirit of Propnight, and Items is “exactly what many of you have been waiting for.” Fntastic plans to finance development through the release of mobile games.
