Solid State Storage Technology Corporation (SSSTC), a subsidiary of Kioxia, has introduced the EJ5 enterprise-class SSDs, suitable for HPC workloads, AI applications and other resource-intensive tasks. The products will be offered in U.2 (15 mm thick) and EDSFF E3.S versions.
The drives are based on 3D eTLC flash chips. The PCIe 5.0 x4 interface is used for connection. The declared data transfer speed in read mode reaches 14000 MB/s, in write mode – 7500 MB/s. The IOPS (input/output operations per second) indicator for random reading and writing in 4 KB blocks is up to 2.5 million and 360 thousand, respectively.
The EJ5 family includes models with capacities of 3.2, 6.4 and 12.8 TB, which can withstand up to three full writes per day (3 DWPD) for five years. In addition, options debuted in capacities of 3.84, 7.68 and 15.36 TB with 1 DWPD for five years. All devices have MTBF (mean time between failures) exceeding 3 million hours. The operating temperature range extends from 0 to +70 °C.
The drives feature proprietary TrueLog 360 technology, which is responsible for collecting and recording important information about the state of the SSD: data is saved every hour throughout its entire life cycle. This enables continuous monitoring and in-depth analysis, allowing enterprise users to monitor device health, temperature anomalies, performance and other parameters at any time.
In addition, TruePLP (Power Loss Protection) protection is mentioned. The equipment includes highly reliable capacitors for backup power supply. In the event of a failure, TruePLP gives the SSD the ability to write any data from DRAM to NAND flash memory, thereby preventing data loss. There is also talk of TCG Opal support.
