The problem reportedly occurs in applications based on the Chromium engine. These include, for example, Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge browsers, as well as Slack, Spotify and many others. Typically, the bug appears when the user enters text into an input field, for example, in the browser’s address bar, or when searching for a particular song in Spotify.

At the time of publication of this text, Microsoft had not yet reported that it was aware of this problem. However, for those who encounter it, there is a simple workaround. To do this you need:

  • Open the Start panel;
  • Write “main.cpl” (without quotes) in the search bar;
  • In the mouse settings that open, select the “Pointers” section;
  • In the “Settings” field, select “Text selection” and click “Browse”;
  • In the window that opens, select the “beam_r” file (without quotes) and click “Open” and then “Apply”.
