Oura Ring 4 smart ring introduced – more titanium, higher accuracy, better autonomy

Oura has announced the Ring 4 smart ring. Compared to the previous generation model, the new product has become thinner, and the quality of measuring health indicators has improved. The manufacturer will supply Ring 4 in more sizes, and will also update the proprietary companion application to make its interface more convenient.

At first glance, Oura Ring 4 is not much different from the third generation model. However, the new product is made of titanium, whereas previously the manufacturer used a case coated with epoxy resin. Perhaps the most noticeable difference of the new product is that it uses smaller sensors, so there are no bulges on the inside of the ring.

A major update concerns the algorithm for collecting health data. One of the main problems with smart rings is that they move during wear and the data is not always collected in the optimal place or is not read correctly at all. The new algorithm increases the number of signal channels from 8 to 18, due to which it becomes possible to select the best signal at any given time. Citing external research, Oura said the new algorithm delivers 120% better signals and 30% better tracking of blood oxygen levels. In addition, the algorithm reduces gaps in heart rate readings between daytime and nighttime by 7% and 31%, respectively.

Oura Ring 4 can go up to eight days on a charge, but battery life varies depending on the size of the ring (generally, larger versions of the ring last longer). In addition, users can now choose between ring sizes from 4 to 15 (previously there were options from 6 to 13).

As for the proprietary Oura app, it has become somewhat cluttered in recent months. This is due to the emergence of new features such as tracking stress, reproductive health, heart health, etc. To solve this problem, the developers have updated the application interface. Now it will have three sections: “Today”, “Vital Signs” and “My Health”. In addition to the design change, an updated metric for stress levels during the day was added, an automatic activity detection function was added for 40 types of activities, etc.

Oura Ring 4 will begin shipping in the middle of this month. The cost of the smart ring starts at $349. The Oura Ring 3, which costs $50 less, will remain on sale until the manufacturer sells all stock. Oura subscription will remain the same $6 per month or $70 per year.
