IPhone 16 Pro screen regularly ignores some touches and gestures, users complain

More and more users are complaining about problems with the responsiveness of the iPhone 16 Pro screen. They experience that the touch screen periodically does not respond to taps and swipes, which is noticeable when performing various actions such as scrolling the screen, pressing buttons, or typing on the virtual keyboard.

This issue is believed to be due to a software bug and is not the result of any hardware defect. According to the source, the cause of the failure may be the algorithm for rejecting random clicks implemented in iOS. Apparently, it is configured too sensitively, which is why it periodically rejects the user’s intentional clicks, mistaking them for accidental ones.

Some iPhone 16 Pro owners have noted that screen responsiveness issues occur when one of their fingers is near the camera control on the right side of the screen. The problem likely affects all edges of the screen and is exacerbated by the fact that the new iPhone 16 Pro has thinner bezels than ever. Because of this, situations more often arise that can be regarded by the algorithm as an accidental touch, after which any clicks are rejected for a short time.

It is noted that the problem can occur when the user naturally holds the phone in the palm of his hand, wrapping his fingers around the side edges of the device. More often, problems with screen responsiveness occur when interacting with a smartphone without a case. The crash appears to only occur when the device is unlocked and the user is interacting with the screen. The complaints are coming from owners of iPhone 16 Pro running iOS 18 and iOS 18.1 beta. Most likely, Apple will be able to solve this problem with a software update.
