AMD Ryzen 9000 processors are already being discounted in the US and Europe due to weak demand

AMD’s Ryzen 9000 series processors went on sale earlier this month, with four next-generation models now available in stores. And it only took a little less than a week for retail chains to begin reducing prices on new items. The launch doesn’t go well.

The first reviews showed a weak increase in the performance of the Ryzen 9000 compared to its predecessors, and compared to its competitors, the new products do not look impressive. AMD announced this due to a number of factors and said that performance will improve in the future – it will be necessary to wait for the Windows 11 update. Motherboards based on the AMD X870 chipset are also being delayed, which could potentially help the chips reach their full potential. Finally, some gamers are waiting for the Ryzen 9000X3D series processors with higher performance.

All this affected the demand for the new Ryzen 9000, and as a result, their price. It took a little over a week for Zen 5 desktop processors to begin to noticeably become cheaper. The flagship 16-core AMD Ryzen 9 9950X model, which went on sale at a recommended price of $649, can now be purchased for $623 (-4%); and the 12-core Ryzen 9 9900X, which debuted for $499, is already selling for $449 (-10%). These prices were offered by one of the largest retailers in the United States, the VideoCardz resource noted.

But price adjustments were not limited to the United States alone – several large retailers in Germany decided to sacrifice their income in order to attract buyers. The AMD Ryzen 9 9900X went on sale at 7% below the recommended retail price from the very beginning, and can now be purchased for €474, that is, already 12% cheaper. Discounts on other models range from 4% to 5%.

Based on the established trend, we can assume that AMD Ryzen 9000 will continue to fall in price. Perhaps the release of motherboards based on the X870 chipset should also be accelerated. And the most important factor will be the release of the new Intel platform and Core Ultra 200 desktop processors scheduled for October – after this, a reduction in prices for processors of the Zen 5 family seems completely inevitable. Perhaps that’s why AMD tried to release them earlier.
