The ChatGPT mobile application from OpenAI has set a new revenue record. The app reported net revenue of $28 million for July, the highest monthly figure since the app launched, according to analytics firm Appfigures.
The main reason for this growth was the release of the new GPT-4o model in May, which significantly expanded the capabilities of the chatbot. The new version is capable of processing text, speech and video, and also offers faster response times and the ability to interrupt dialogue. Also, the new neural network is available to both paid and free users, which has a positive effect on the service’s audience.
Before fees from the Apple App Store and Google Play, the ChatGPT app earned $28.9 million in May, $34 million in June and $39.9 million in July. Interestingly, 83% of the app’s revenue came from Apple’s App Store, up 20% from June.
According to Appfigures, demand for the new technology contributed to the app’s revenue growth of 40% in May, and although the growth rate has slowed slightly, revenue continues to grow steadily. As a result, ChatGPT managed to attract 2 million new paid subscribers in July, which became another record for a mobile application.
OpenAI expects that with the introduction of a new advanced voice mode that can provide realistic interactions in near real time, interest in GPT-4o will only increase, and accordingly, revenue growth will continue in the coming months.
