Huawei introduced the Nova Flip clamshell with a square outer screen, Kirin 8000 chip and a price starting at $740

Huawei has launched the Nova Flip foldable phone with a square display, an advanced rear camera, a durable battery and a fresh design. Huawei says the new device has received the industry’s first Swiss SGS certification, guaranteeing 1.2 million opening and closing cycles. The phone uses a teardrop-shaped basalt hinge, which significantly reduces the gap and provides a completely flat screen when unfolded.

The new product is built on the Kirin 8000 chipset, which includes one Cortex-A78 core with a frequency of up to 2.4 GHz, three Cortex-A78 cores with a frequency of up to 2.189 GHz and four Cortex-A510 cores with a frequency of up to 1.84 GHz. GPU – Mali-G610 with a frequency of 864 MHz. The amount of RAM in all versions of the phone will be 12 GB, the capacity of the built-in storage will be 256 GB, 512 GB or 1 TB.

The main OLED display has a diagonal of 6.94 inches with a resolution of 2690 × 1136 pixels and an adaptive refresh rate of 1-120 Hz. It supports proprietary SuperMotion and SuperVision image enhancement technologies with AI Image HDR and Touch Turbo 4.0 for precise touch feedback. The external OLED display measures 2.14 inches with a resolution of 480 x 480 pixels and supports P3 color gamut.

Huawei Nova Flip received a double block of rear cameras – a 50-megapixel RYYB main camera with an f/1.9 aperture and an 8-megapixel wide-angle module with a viewing angle of 112 degrees and an f/2.2 aperture. Photographic capabilities are complemented by 10x digital zoom and macro mode.

The selfie camera with a 32-megapixel sensor (f/2.2 aperture) provides portrait, panoramic, synchronized shooting modes and voice control. The proprietary Da Vinci Portrait Engine 2.0 software allows you to create portraits by “intelligently optimizing shape, color, texture, light and pattern, making the face shape three-dimensional.” The owner has a variety of filters at his disposal, such as texture and makeup, as well as night photography and timed photos.

Dual-SIM Super Acceleration technology with weak signal enhancement mode ensures high download and upload speeds. Nova Flip is equipped with a non-removable battery with a silicon anode with a capacity of 4400 mAh. It supports 66W fast charging (11V and 6A) and Turbo 2.0 technology for extended battery life. The Nova Flip is 169.77mm long when unfolded and 87.76mm long when folded. The width of the phone is 75.4 mm, and the thickness and weight depend on the version:

• Leather finish: 15.08 mm folded, 6.88 mm unfolded, weight 195 grams.
• Glass panel: 15.12 mm folded and 6.9 mm unfolded, weight 199 grams.

The device is offered in four colors: New Green, Zero White, Sakura Pink and Starry Black.

The smartphone runs HarmonyOS 4.2 and offers several AI tools for shooting and communication, including control of the square external display and image retouching and editing functions that allow you to erase unwanted objects or cut out a certain part of the image.

Huawei Nova Flip is aimed at a youth audience, so the manufacturer offers a number of functions to personalize the device:

• Call Fun Display: The external display will show animated lights during a call. Users can set different styles or templates for this feature.
• Cute Pet: Users can apply “a cute panda or other pets that show funny animations on the external screen.”
• Custom Style: The owner can create his own picture, change the clock, fonts, or simply choose the color of the wallpaper on the main screen.
• Interactive Themes: Set fun wallpapers like Star Maze, astronauts, mini games and more.

Nova Flip allows users to access apps from the external screen using widgets for quick launch. Huawei has also integrated a Live Window feature for the external display. The Celia voice assistant has become more effective in Nova Flip. It will help users with a wide range of requests – from skin care consultations and travel planning to editing documents and spreadsheets.

Huawei Nova Flip comes in three versions at the following prices:

• Nova Flip (12 GB RAM + 256 GB storage) – 5288 yuan (about 63,000 rubles or $740)
• Nova Flip (12 GB RAM + 512 GB storage) – 5688 yuan (about 67,700 rubles or $800)
• Nova Flip (12 GB RAM + 1 TB storage) – 6488 yuan (about 77,200 rubles or $910)

Pre-orders for the smartphone are being accepted today, and the new product will arrive in retail stores in China on August 9.
