Sabrent is preparing to release a high-speed external solid-state drive Rocket XTRM5 with support for the Thunderbolt 5 interface. The new product will provide sequential read speeds above 6 GB/s.
Inside the Rocket XTRM5 there is an M.2 2280 NVMe drive with advanced speed characteristics. And for the user they become available thanks to the new Thunderbolt 5 interface, which supports higher data transfer rates compared to the previous generation of the Thunderbolt 4 interface. At the same time, Rocket XTRM5 is compatible with the Thunderbolt 3 and Thunderbolt 4 standards, but in this case the data transfer speeds are will be lower.
Sabrent provided a screenshot of the CrystalDiskMark test, which shows the Rocket XTRM5’s sequential read performance of 6071 MB/s and sequential write performance of 5126 MB/s.
The Sabrent Rocket XTRM5 drive will be offered in 1, 2 and 4 TB capacities. It is assembled in an aluminum case, which also serves as a cooling system.
The company notes that it needs some more time to finalize the announced external SSD. Therefore, the manufacturer does not disclose the cost of the new product, nor does it say when the drive will go on sale.
