Nio Phone 2 smartphone announced with flagship hardware and deep integration with Nio electric vehicles

Nio held an Innovation Day event in Shanghai, where it presented the Nio Phone 2 smartphone, intended primarily for owners of Nio electric vehicles. As noted by GSMArena, Nio is sticking to its previously announced plan to release a new phone model annually and is even ahead of schedule, since the original Nio Phone was released in September 2023.

Nio Phone 2 is similar to its predecessor in both design and high functionality. The new product is based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, which is complemented by up to 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and a UFS 4.0 flash drive with a capacity of up to 1 TB. To cool the components, the Gun Yu Cooling System is used, which, according to the company, maintains the surface temperature of the smartphone at 40 ° C while playing Honor of Kings with 119 FPS and 47.6 ° C in Honkai Impact 3 with 59.5 FPS.

The smartphone is equipped with a 6.82-inch Samsung E7 curved LTPO OLED display with QHD+ resolution, refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz, PWM backlight brightness control with a frequency of 1440 Hz and a peak brightness of 2600 cd/m2. The rear camera system includes a 48MP Sony LYT-T808 (IMX888) primary sensor, a 48MP LYT-600 (IMX882) wide-angle lens and a 50MP IMX890 periscopic telephoto lens with 2.6x zoom. The front camera resolution is 12 megapixels.

Like its predecessor, Nio Phone 2 has a dedicated button on the left side of the body to control connected car functions. With UWB and Bluetooth support, the smartphone can be used as a digital key for Nio electric vehicles. There is also support for NFC keys.

The Nio Phone 2 reportedly runs a custom version of Android, which Nio says “has no system ads or commercial pre-installed apps.” Additionally, Nio Phone 2 offers NOMI GPT, a suite of AI features including an AI chatbot, a large model encyclopedia, a collection of vehicle FAQs, and image generation support.

There is also a NIO Link feature that allows you to interact via your smartphone with the car’s infotainment system. In particular, it can be used to directly access the vehicle’s camera system for real-time streaming.

The power source is a 5020 mAh battery with support for 80 W fast wired charging and 50 W wireless charging. Nio Phone 2 is available in multiple color options. The glass back version of the smartphone is 8.6mm thick and weighs 209g, while the premium ceramic back version is 8.45mm thick and weighs 226g.

The Nio Phone 2 smartphone went on sale in China in three configurations: the base model with 12/512 GB of memory costs 6,499 yuan (about $896), the model with 12 GB of RAM and 1 TB of flash memory will cost 6,899 yuan (about $951), and the older EP Edition with 16 GB of RAM and a 1 TB flash drive costs 7,499 yuan (about $1,034).
