The teaser trailer for the full-length Minecraft film, released last week, based on the block sandbox from Mojang of the same name, alienated fans of the franchise and inspired enthusiasts to create their own version of the video.
As noted by Forbes, the Minecraft teaser trailer, which debuted on September 4, has already received more than 32 million views on YouTube and received almost 2 million ratings, most of which are negative.
In particular, the one and a half minute video earned more than 1.3 million dislikes and 0.62 million likes from viewers. YouTube hides negative ratings, so third-party services like Return YouTube Dislikes are used to determine their number.
First of all, Minecraft fans were put off by the visual style – Hollywood actors, against the background of controversial (especially animals) computer graphics, according to many, are inferior to the potential of the animated film.
The fans’ wish was brought to life by blogger Alumio, who released a remake of the Minecraft teaser trailer with graphics in the style of the original game. Commentators agreed that this is exactly how the film should have looked.
According to the plot of the film adaptation, four losers are drawn into a cubic world through a mysterious portal. To return home, the heroes will have to show courage and ingenuity, and team up with local expert Steve.
The American premiere of Minecraft will take place on April 4, 2025. The film was directed by Jared Hess and featured Jack Black and Jason Momoa in the lead roles.
