The new US tariff policy in the area of customs control has already resulted in an indefinite delay in the opening of pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 for the country, and now it has come back to haunt Canadian Nintendo fans.

Nintendo of Canada confirmed in a statement to the local portal MobileSyrup that pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will not open in the North American country on April 9. They are also postponed indefinitely.

«”Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders in Canada will not open on April 9, 2025 to coincide with pre-order dates to be determined in the U.S.,” Nintendo said in a statement.

The platform holder promises to announce a new date for opening pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada later, but the company does not intend to change the release dates for the console in the country – the start of sales is still scheduled for June 5.

Last Friday, Nintendo similarly delayed the start of Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders in the US to “assess the potential impact of tariffs and changing market conditions.”

Let us recall that last week US President Donald Trump announced the introduction of increased import duties on foreign goods – up to 54% (104% from April 9) on Chinese goods, up to 46% on Vietnamese goods, and so on.

Canadian users, following their American counterparts, have already mentally prepared themselves for the Nintendo Switch 2 to become more expensive. Currently, it is assumed that the console will cost $450 in the US and 629 Canadian dollars in Canada.
