Apple has updated its list of “vintage” devices, adding the iPhone 6s and Mac mini from 2018. Now, service and repair of these models will be carried out only if the necessary components are available.

According to the company’s policy, a device is considered vintage if more than five years have passed since its last sale, MacRumors reminds us. In this status, the equipment can still be serviced in Apple retail stores and authorized service partners, but there are no longer any guarantees for the availability of components.
The iPhone 6s was introduced in 2015 and remained on sale as a budget model until 2018. The smartphone received an A9 processor and a reinforced aluminum case, which was the answer to the problem of bending the case under mechanical load (bendgate) in the previous model. It was also the first iPhone with 3D Touch technology and the last flagship with a headphone jack.
As for the 2018 Mac mini, this model was the last in its line to use Intel processors before the transition to proprietary Apple Silicon chips. The device was equipped with eighth-generation Intel chips (Coffee Lake) with four- and six-core configurations and Intel UHD Graphics 630 graphics.
Apple emphasizes that if more than seven years have passed since the last sale of the device, its official repair becomes completely impossible in service centers – or is possible only if the necessary parts are available.
