For a more detailed look — and not just with the camera, of course — we refer you to the detailed review of the HONOR Magic 7 Pro. Here we will simply highlight a few key points regarding the specific capabilities of the smartphone.

AI Burst Shooting

The very connection to shooting of neural networks and especially “smart” image processing algorithms is already the basis for a modern smartphone. In fact, there was no other way due to hardware limitations (it is impossible to install a large sensor and optics in a small case) – computational photography was initially inevitable. But HONOR in its 2025 flagship uses AI, in addition to the usual “decoration” of photos in a special way – the Magic 7 Pro has ambitions, if not to compete with reportage cameras, then at least to look into their territory.

Last year’s flagship, HONOR Magic6 Pro, learned to successfully capture motion in dynamics (and we also wrote a separate article about it), and the seventh “magic” has developed this ability – serial shooting has been added to the tenacious autofocus and smart control of shooting fast-moving objects. The smartphone can make series of up to 30 frames, shooting at a speed of 10 frames per second – and each frame in this series is processed using artificial intelligence, due to which excellent sharpness and a wide dynamic range (conditionally – HDR) are achieved at the level of shooting single frames.

In daylight, the smartphone’s sharpness is impressive – yes, unlike a serious professional camera, the depth of field is too great, the object is not separated from the background, but the gadget “catches” movement well. In low light, blur is already possible (and even more than likely) – we will consider that artificial background blur and even higher shooting speed are room for work in the future.

Let’s add that the HONOR Magic 7 Pro does not fill the gallery with a continuous stream of frames taken in burst mode – each series has its own “folder”, from which you can select the best shots after the fact.

100x AI Zoom

The second non-standard application of neural networks is the ability to shoot not only with optical (up to threefold) and hybrid (up to sixfold – this is a crop from a 50-megapixel image on a zoom camera with a basic threefold scaling), but also with software zoom up to 100x.

This feature itself is no longer surprising – you can only surprise with the result of shooting. And HONOR Magic 7 Pro succeeds in this. At extreme zoom (from 30x to 100x zoom), you can turn on AI assistance – a corresponding icon appears on the screen. In order for it to work, an active Internet connection is required, for processing the photo is sent to the cloud. From the cloud, a frame flies back with increased clarity and unexpectedly well-drawn contours.

Yes, such pictures still have little artistic value, and the AI assistant in this case does not cope with all subjects (for example, it “finishes” buildings or some similar inanimate objects very well, but not people). But the result is impressive in any case.

Variable aperture on the main camera

The main camera of the HONOR Magic 7 Pro uses a physically variable aperture – the same camera was on its predecessor, the Magic6 Pro, but this feature does not become less interesting.

By default, the smartphone itself selects the appropriate aperture for a specific scene (on a sunny day, it is better to close the aperture, at night, open it to the maximum), but you can also control it in the “professional” mode with manual settings. The minimum available value is f / 1.4, the maximum is f / 2.0. The step is small, but here our favorite AI comes into play again – with a closed aperture, we see very pronounced “rays” on light sources, as with a star filter or with an aperture closed to at least f / 7.1. Not very natural, but very effective.

Portrait mode with Harcourt profiles

In addition to the basic abundance of portrait shooting capabilities on the HONOR Magic 7 Pro (customizable artificial bokeh and retouching, four available focal lengths, regular filters), there are special Harcourt profiles – a signature feature of HONOR smartphones. The profiles, developed jointly with a Parisian studio specializing, of course, in portraits, do not simply tint the image, but completely change its character. There are three profiles in total.

Harcourt Vibrant barely changes colors, but works with the balance of highlights and shadows, making the image seem softer. Harcourt Color simulates vintage cameras, but shooting in color – the tones are warm, the saturation is reduced. Harcourt Classic shoots black and white portraits with increased contrast – an eternal classic. Thanks to the combination of a strong base and unique profiles, the HONOR Magic 7 Pro turns out to be one of the best smartphones for shooting portraits.

Night mode

And, of course, the HONOR Magic 7 Pro has a night mode – this is the alpha and omega of any modern smartphone, and not just a flagship, a key stronghold of computational photography. The question is in the implementation.

Here it is implemented perfectly. The smartphone takes a series of pictures with different exposures, then combines them into a final picture with increased brightness, detail and without gaps in the shadows. HONOR Magic 7 Pro does this, firstly, quickly (it rarely takes more than three seconds to shoot and process), and secondly, qualitatively – with high saturation and brightness, the night character of the image is preserved.
