The outgoing week was marked by the announcement of budget Nvidia video cards, which, like other products of the company this year, did not start the march very successfully. The company made efforts to ensure that the version of GeForce RTX 5060 Ti with 8 GB of memory got into reviews as late as possible, but bloggers on the Chinese video platform Bilibili still managed to conduct a comparative test of it with the 16 GB version.

We tested two Asus GeForce RTX 5060 Ti graphics cards with three fans, one with 8 GB and the other with 16 GB of memory. The test results give an idea of what to expect from the mysterious model with less VRAM. In most synthetic tests, the difference was insignificant. In 3DMark Fire Strike, both models showed almost identical results: both were 20-30% faster than the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB and 5% slower than the RTX 4070. In 3DMark Time Spy, they also performed almost equally: 18% faster than the RTX 4060 Ti and 12-14% slower than the RTX 4070.

The review included gaming tests at 1080p and 1440p resolutions: both options showed similar results in many games. Interestingly, the younger version was faster in Counter-Strike 2, and the older one in Horizon Zero Dawn. Based on the results of 14 games tested at 1080p resolution, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 Ti with 8 GB of memory was on average 16% faster than the RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB, and the RTX 5060 Ti with 16 GB of memory was 19% faster than its predecessor. At 1440p resolution, the RTX 5060 Ti with 8 GB was 17% faster, and with 16 GB, it was 21% more productive.

There are exceptions, though. The 16GB model delivered significantly better performance in Cyberpunk 2077, for example, where the 8GB card performed even worse than the 8GB RTX 4060 Ti at native resolution. And even with DLSS4 enabled with MFG, the 8GB version lagged behind the 16GB version by 22%.

Thus, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 Ti with 8 GB of memory turned out to be more powerful and, in theory, cheaper than its direct predecessor, but this amount of memory is obviously not enough for comfortable gaming in all situations. And only the older version shows a noticeable increase in performance from DLSS 4. Therefore, the 8-gigabyte version of the RTX 5060 Ti is unlikely to become a popular solution.
