When it was released in 2015, the interactive horror film Until Dawn from Supermassive Games was a PS4 exclusive, but the game was originally created for the PS3 – a full walkthrough of that very version recently became publicly available.

Blogger Digital Preservation uploaded a four-hour video (see video below) to YouTube showing a full walkthrough of the Until Dawn prototype for PS3. The build dates back to January 2013, meaning the game was more than two years away from release at the time.

What distinguished this version of Until Dawn from the release version was, first of all, the first-person view and the use of the PlayStation Move controller, which was to be used exclusively to control the game.

Until Dawn players were supposed to use the PS Move to light up the darkness, fire shotguns, stab, tune the radio, and more.

As you can see from the Digital Preservation video, the Until Dawn PS3 prototype was far from being released: many elements were unfinished, some lines were not recorded, and some characters had not yet received their final appearance.

Until Dawn follows a group of teenagers who return to a mountain cabin where two of their friends disappeared a year ago. The player’s decisions determine the fate of all eight central characters and the ending.

The original Until Dawn was released on August 25, 2015 on PS4, and in October 2024, a remake recreated from scratch on Unreal Engine 5 was released on PC (Steam, EGS) and PS5. A film based on the game is currently being prepared for release.
