Let us remind you that despite its remaster status, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered offered completely reworked animations and graphics on Unreal Engine 5, improved gameplay and many other innovations.

According to former Bethesda Game Studios design director Bruce Nesmith, who worked on Fallout 3 as a level designer, the remake of the 2008 post-apocalyptic RPG will also go beyond a facelift.

«[“Fallout 3’s combat system didn’t hold up to comparisons with shooters of its time. But a lot of work was done on that aspect in Fallout 4, and I expect we’ll see that [in the remaster],” Nesmith told VideoGamer.

As Nesmith noted, Bethesda’s work on Fallout 4 is a clear demonstration of what the company felt it needed to change about the game compared to Fallout 3, since “that was their first shooter game.”

Previously, insider Nate the Hate confirmed Bethesda’s plans for Fallout 3 Remastered, but warned that “it will be a while before we see it.” Based on Microsoft’s court documents, we could be talking about 2027.

Fallout 3 debuted in October 2008 on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. The game was Bethesda’s first entry into the Fallout franchise and had sold over 12.4 million copies by the time Fallout 4 was released in fall 2015.
