Along with iOS 18.1, Apple is preparing to release an updated version of the AI assistant Siri, which will receive many interesting features. At the same time, according to 9to5Mac, Apple has begun developing a new “AI personality” that will be completely independent of Siri and is intended for robotic assistants.

As Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports, Apple is actively working on a new, advanced AI assistant for its robots and robotic devices for home use and beyond. One of the key aspects of this development is the creation of not just an assistant, but an “AI personality.”

While Siri is the digital assistant on current Apple devices, the AI Personality, already codenamed J595, will be a humanoid interface powered by generative AI. “I’m told that the interface could be implemented on desktop devices and other future robotic gadgets from Apple,” Gurman writes in his Power On newsletter.

The J595 will be similar to the iPad, but with cameras and a robot-powered base. This product is planned to appear around 2026 or 2027, with mobile robots and perhaps even humanoid models to follow later. The idea is based on Apple’s belief that a device is only useful if you can reach it. At the same time, there are quite a few situations when a computer is needed, but it is not nearby, or your hands are busy with something else.

For example, attaching a robotic arm to an iPad could potentially make the device more useful for video conferencing or searching for recipes online. The robot will be able to rotate the screen if it receives such a command. Apple is already considering the possibility of creating robots that can also perform household chores, such as loading a washing machine or washing dirty dishes. However, these are ideas of the future that do not yet go beyond ideas and sketches on paper.
