As expected, on August 16, the debut game of the Chinese studio Game Science, the ambitious fantasy role-playing action game Black Myth: Wukong, received the first ratings from Western critics.

The Metacritic aggregator has already accumulated fifty reviews of Black Myth: Wukong with an average rating of 82% – journalists evaluated only the PC version, since the PS5 edition was not available for testing.

Let us remind you that Black Myth: Wukong is based on the classic Chinese novel “Journey to the West”. Players in the role of the king of the monkeys chosen by fate will go on an adventure full of trials and wonders.

The game’s plot received mixed reviews – some found it coherent and exciting, others found it incoherent

Reviewers were delighted with the dynamic and varied combat system, detailed animation, diverse and grandiose bosses, technical and artistic beauty, atmospheric music and many secrets.

The disadvantages of the project included non-obvious level design, aggravated by the lack of a map, limited exploration of locations, sharp jumps in difficulty and technical problems (crashes, bugs, frame rate drops even on powerful PCs).

Journalists called Black Myth: Wukong an original (unlike Souls games) and excellent (especially for a debut game) action game, which is held back from true greatness by some design and technical problems.

Black Myth: Wukong will be released on August 20 on PC (Steam, EGS, WePlay) and PS5, while the version for Xbox Series X and S will be delayed. Recently, a free tool for checking game performance on a PC appeared on Steam.
