Last week, Tesla not only introduced a restyled version of its most popular electric car, the Model Y, but also began accepting orders for it in China, promising the local public to begin delivering new generation cars from its Shanghai plant by March of this year. The new product has not yet been offered to Europeans, but its production has already been launched in the vicinity of Berlin, but there is no data yet on the timing of the appearance of the new generation Model Y in the United States.

As Electrek reports, this week Tesla confirmed that it has begun producing a restyled version of the Model Y crossover at its plant in Germany, although the company’s website in the region still offers a pre-reform car at a price of 44,990 euros, which, if the updated version is released locally the market will have to grow. Last year, the European market did not please Tesla with the dynamics of sales of electric vehicles of this brand, since overall in the region they fell by 10%, and in Germany directly they dropped by 41% compared to the more prosperous 2023.
In fact, Tesla now only has to organize production of a restyled version of the Model Y at a plant in Texas near its headquarters, because the home market remains one of the most important for it, although it is smaller in size than the Chinese one. In Europe, Model Y remains Tesla’s bestseller, so localizing its release is of great importance for the company. As for the prospects for the appearance of the restyled Model Y on the US market, in the current conditions they will entirely depend on the timing of the localization of assembly of the new product in Texas. Previously, Tesla supplied basic versions of its electric vehicles to the United States from China, but now, in the context of increased customs duties, this has lost its meaning. The company never built an enterprise in Mexico, and it was initially designed for cheaper models of electric vehicles, the production of which in Mexico in the context of the rhetoric of President-elect Donald Trump also loses all economic sense. It turns out that the Americans will receive the new Tesla Model Y after the Chinese and Europeans.
