Every fifth gaming monitor is now equipped with an OLED matrix, LG estimates

More than a fifth of all gaming monitors currently in use are based on OLED panels, LG representatives said during a briefing ahead of CES 2025. If this information is true, the technology is spreading at a rapid pace.

The information, which has so far come from a single source, may still have to be verified – this was reported by the HDTVTest YouTube channel in a video published with the participation of a sponsor. “It’s only been two years since LG introduced its first OLED gaming monitor, the UltraGear, and OLED already accounts for 22% of gaming monitors,” the channel said, citing statistics provided by LG. It is emphasized that we are talking about monitors that are actually used by consumers and not supplied to retailers. LG presented these statistics during a briefing ahead of CES 2025.

If the information presented is true, gaming enthusiasts are obviously more interested in purchasing cutting-edge monitors than PC users in general. And a wider audience of TV buyers traditionally chooses larger and less expensive models – options with OLED panels are often preferred by those who do not spare money on solutions in the upper segment.

LG’s stats seem plausible, considering that during the Black Friday sales at the end of last year, some OLED monitors were offered for under $500. But more affordable LCD models are also here to stay, even if the majority of the gaming segment switches to OLED. Finally, we add that the Korean manufacturer also estimates that the share of OLED technology in the TV market has reached 18%.
