Meta✴ Platforms has updated the Quest VR headset support site to say that there is a “software update issue” that is causing the Quest 2, Quest 3 and Quest 3S headsets to lock up. The post said that “most” owners of the company’s VR headsets can now continue interacting with their devices, but the company is “actively working to resolve the issue for all users.”
Meta✴’s announcement on this issue is good news for owners of the Quest 2 and Quest 3 headsets, as it was previously reported that the company would not be repairing or replacing these devices due to the end of their warranty period. Some members of the Reddit community reported receiving an email from Meta✴ stating that users would receive out-of-warranty service for this issue. The Meta✴ support forum manager said that customer support “should receive new guidance on how to provide support services in the current situation.”
Meta✴ reported a problem with the software update on December 6th. At the time, the company confirmed the issue was affecting “some Quest 3S devices,” but Quest 2 and Quest 3 were not mentioned. The company also did not say which version of the headsets’ software causes the devices to lock. Meta✴ began distributing the Quest v71 update on December 9th. It introduced several new features, and it appears that installing it may break the functionality of the company’s headsets.
