A group of video content creators recruited by OpenAI to help develop AI video generator Sora appears to have opened it up to everyone, TechCrunch reported. On Tuesday, the group published on AI development platform Hugging Face an interface linked to OpenAI’s Sora API that allows users to generate 10-second videos at up to 1080p resolution.
The artists explained their action as a protest against the “washing of art.” They say OpenAI pressures Sora’s early testers, including Red Team members and creative partners, to create a positive story around Sora and does not compensate them fairly for their work.
«This early access program seems to be less about creative expression and criticism and more about PR and advertising,” they stated in a message attached to the interface. “We are not against the use of AI technology as a tool for art (if we were, we probably would not have been invited to this program),” the video content creators wrote. “We disagree with the way this artist program has been rolled out and how the tool is being shaped ahead of eventual public release.”
According to another version reported by BGR, user X @legit_rumors said that HuggingFace found access to OpenAI Sora through Discord channels and shared some examples of using this tool to create videos using AI on the Web. Be that as it may, OpenAI soon closed the ability to use Sora for everyone. Some users of the social network X were able to use the interface to download samples of videos created by Sora.
Recall that at the time of the announcement of Sora, OpenAI said that it is “an AI model that can create realistic and imaginative scenes according to textual instructions. Sora can create videos up to a minute long while maintaining visual quality and following user guidance.”
Currently, only a small number of visual artists, designers and filmmakers have access to the platform, and collaborating with them allows the company to “get feedback on how to improve the model so that it is as useful as possible for creative professionals.”
