Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 public lobbies will be banned from playing with mods, but there is good news

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 development director Dmitry Grigorenko addressed players using mods in the multiplayer modes of the shooter Focus Entertainment and Saber Interactive.

According to Grigorenko, Saber believes that modifications help extend the life of the game. Therefore, the studio tried to make Space Marine 2 friendly to folk art (for example, it did not encrypt files).

At the same time, the team noticed that a non-zero share of recent problems with server stability were caused by mods. At the same time, troubles (including the loss of saves) affected even those who do not use them.

Due to the aforementioned problems with the release of the next major update for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 in December, users will be prohibited from playing in public online lobbies with mods.

However, there is good news. Even three:

  • Firstly, the ability to play with mods will remain in private lobbies – for now this option is only available in Operations (PvE), but in the future it will also appear in Eternal War (PvP);
  • Secondly, developers will simplify access for modified games to their backend, so that modders do not have to hack the executable file after each new patch;
  • Thirdly, Saber will make some of its tools available to make it easier for enthusiasts to create modifications.

The last major update for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 came out in October and caused such a storm of user indignation that the developers canceled the particularly outrageous changes and promised to open test servers.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 was released on September 9 on PC (Steam, EGS), PS5, Xbox Series X and S. As part of the upcoming The Game Awards 2024, the game is competing for two awards – “Best Action” and “Best Multiplayer”.
